Beovision MX2000

BeoVision

Production: 1985 - 05/1989

With a 20″ screen and a whole host of connection possibilities, Beovision MX2000 was the first of a new breed of televisions for Bang & Olufsen. The receiver paved the way for many similarly-looking sets, all based upon its ‘monitor’ design by David Lewis.

Slim-looking and sold in a variety of coloured finishes to its plastic/resin casing, all of the MX range TVs were fitted with either a glass or an acrylic contrast screen to protect its picture tube against dust and scratches.  So with the introduction of the MX2000 out went the more traditional wood veneer finishes and in came glossy black, red and white as well as other colour-coordinating tones over the years. The sets looked just as good switched off as they did in use and blended in with most everyone’s home décor.

Good quality stereo sound was obtained through its two 8cm speakers (2 x 7W) situated in a covered panel beneath the picture tube and control was made via the Video Terminal remote control which would also function with a Bang & Olufsen VCR.

Connections to the TV included: A/V, Audio/Video in/out, External speakers, headphones plus connections to an external amplifier and tape recorder. Teletext was sold as an option.

As well as the possibility of placing the receiver on a table or shelf,  a built-in metal support on its base even made it possible to tilt the TV backwards.

Beovision MX2000 won the Danish Design Centre Award in 1986.
