Beovision MX3000

BeoVision

Production: 1988 - 08/1990

Replacing the Beovision MX2000, this newer, slightly larger-screened receiver was manufactured from a whole range of other manufacturers’ products but with Bang & Olufsen’s flair for design and inbuilt control electronics.

With the introduction of the Beolink 1000 remote control terminal, the software was updated from that of the Beovision MX2000 to accommodate either that or the similarly-looking V.Terminal.

The Beosat RX free-standing satellite decoder could be used with this new TV, operated via its AV link connector. Teletext was further improved as against the Beovision MX2000 with the inclusion of ‘page memory’ whereby up to four text pages could be stored for each TV channel.

With a bigger cabinet, more amplification could be offered. The Beovision MX3000 gave a full 2 x 15W of stereo sound through its front-facing log-line speaker system.  Again a glass contrast screen was fitted to the front of the television and automatic colour tuning working at 50 times per second ensured good picture quality with natural-looking colours.

As with most televisions of the period the set could be fitted with Bang & Olufsen’s Loop Amplifier module for the hard-of-hearing. Two buttons were fitted to the front of the set to allow for switching the set on and another for stepping up between channel, both located beneath the loudspeaker grille.

The Beocord VHS 82.2 video recorder could be used with this TV and its larger-sized brother, the Beovision MX4500.

Both of these televisions suffered from poor reliability and were never the success that Bang & Olufsen hoped that they would be.
