BeoLit 606AM

BeoLit AM Portable Radio

Production: 1960 - present

In July 1951 the world’s first transistor was announced at a press conference, and five years later this discovery led its inventors sharing a Nobel prize for physics. The first radio to be sold commercially was in November 1954 in the USA and in the United Kingdom Pye sold its first transistorized radio in June 1956. It was the Pam model 710, which used eight transistors. Before the end of the decade, most UK manufacturers were producing high-quality transistorized radio receivers.

Bang & Olufsen announced its interest in transistorization with the Beolit 606AM portable radio, the first Beolit radio with transistorized circuitry, able to receive radio broadcasts on the AM waveband.
