Replacing the Beovision LX2800 the set was visually indistinguishable from its former version. However, updated software had been incorporated within the system’s microelectronics to ensure that compete integration was possible between a Bang & Olufsen music centre (such as the Beocenter 9000 and the Beosystem 5500) and as part of a Beolink system through which a radio station (as well as other music sources) could be summoned on the Beolink 1000 remote control to be played through the TV’s loudspeakers. Likewise the TVs sound could be relayed to a suitably-equipped Bang & Olufsen hi-fi system situated in another room.
The updated software allowed for a stereo Beocord VX5000 VHS video recorder to be used as well as the slightly older Beocord VHS 91 and Beocord 91.2. An A/2 stereo decoder was fitted to the TV and NICAM was avaialble as an option.
A forceful 15 watts per channel was obtained through the set’s amplifier and sound was hi-fi quality through its bass-reflex cabinets. VisionClear ensured excellent-quality pictures during the lifetime of the set and Automatic Cut-Off ensured colour balance fifty times each second. A contrast screen was fitted as standard and Automatic Contrast Control ensured a good contrast level in relation to the light level of the room in which it was situated.
Teletext was standard and a stereo width adjustment gave the illusion of additional space between the set’s two loudspeakers.
There was a wealth of connections available which all-in-all made the Beovision LX2502 very desirable as compared to other products of its day.
The Beovision LX5500 replaced the Beovision LX 2802. Both these receivers shared most of their internal components with the Beovision MX5500.
