Beogram 8000 was right from the onset destined to be something special among Bang & Olufsen’s long line-up of essential products. Following on from Beogram 4000 some nine years later, the remit of Bang & Olufsen’s Research and Development was to design something which would replace this unique product with another similar turntable more up-to-date and different, yet retaining many of its main characteristics including excellent product quality, durability and good looks, as well as technological prowess and affordability.

Beolab 8000 System was to become something special, and engineers attempted to design Beogram 8000 to be something special too.  It could only be, after all,  the best of the best that was included!

Looking at the two record decks, both Beolab 4000 and Beolab 8000 had similar features, and of course, had similar functions. However, the platter on the Beogram 8000 was different regarding technology and how it had been designed.  It was based on the tangential drive principle, the same motion that is obtained when an electric current is passed through, say, your electric meter.  There is no motor as such in simple terms, it’s down to magnets pulling the platter around in a remarkably smooth fashion, day and night, without any upkeep or maintenance.
