Beomaster 1000 was a combined amplifier and FM-only tuner covering the 88 - 108MHz waveband and which delivered 20W music power to each of its stereo speakers. The radio section came equipped with AFC which enabled the tuner to lock on to distant FM broadcasts. When single-transmitter stereo broadcasts were being received an optional multiplex decoder allowed for excellent reception and displayed the fact via a small green lamp.
Piano critical selectors allowed for ease of use (the keys were split into the following operations: FM Broadcasting, FM Automatic Frequency Control; Tape Recorder; Gramophone 1; Gramophone 2) and were printed with their intended use on both the top and on the front so that the receiver could be used either high up or lower down.
Two sets of stereo speakers and two record decks could be connected, and there were separate scratch and rumble filters which were used when playing back records.
What a restyle of the Beomaster 1000 was made in its later years when a change from the fundamental white model (which used germanium transistors) was created to an essential black model which was manufactured with silicon transistors. This redesign work was the first commission undertaken by Jacob Jensen for Bang & Olufsen.
The receiver was awarded the iF Prize for Industrial Design in 1966.
