Beosystem 3 was described by Bang & Olufsen as a ’stage manager.’ Because it was designed to be modular, the user could keep adding new equipment when additional needs arose. For use in advanced setups, BeoSystem 3 was capable of simultaneously controlling both a flat screen monitor, such as BeoVision 4 as well as a video projector.
Any source could be connected to BeoSystem 3. It would play most formats, and the Beo4 remote control would most probably be able to control it. There were more than 70 connections situated on the front, hidden behind sturdy front plates. It was set up for HDMI, Cable, Satellite, High-Definition DVD, Hard Disc Recorders, Surround Sound, content streamed over Broadband, game consoles, digital cameras, MP3-players, and could play back Dolby Digital 5.1, and 6.1/7.1 Ex, DTS 5.1, DTS ES Matrix/Discrete 6.1 or Dolby Pro Logic IIx. Digital processors adjusted the picture according to both the source and the screen connected.
