After the general failure of its predecessor, the Beovision MX3000, which suffered from poor reliabilty due to a mish-mash of other manufacturers’ products, the newer Beovision MX3500 represented a new change in outlook for the company’s fortunes in relation to their monitor-type TV receivers.
With very little to differentiate externally between the MX3000 and this later model, the introduction of this new television represented a real return to quality products for Bang & Olufsen. The Beovision MX5500 was the larger 28″ equivalent of the Beovision MX3500.
Two AV connectors were incorporated as well as Power Link sockets for connection to the Beolab range of active loudspeakers. An Audio AUX connector was also in situ as well as a connection for a motorised stand.
Other facilities, such as a better Teletext system, A2 / NICAM stereo decoder, an optional satellite decoder, Loop Amplifier and Picture-in-Picture module were also made available. The recommended VCR for use with this television was the Beocord VX5500.
And again, as was often the case with the MX range, a wide choice of exterior colours were on offer. On top of everything else, the set could be mounted on the wall using its own special wall bracket. Other floor-standing units were also available.
The Beovision MX3500, at the end of its successful life, was replaced with the BeoVision MX4000, another highly noteworthy TV receiver in the Bang & Olufsen MX range.
