The beautiful-looking Beocenter 1600 in its black-painted front livery, complete with rich, natural wood veneers, was a combined hi-fi amplifier, FM stereo tuner and cassette recorder. It was based upon the Beocenter 1500 - its predecessor. Although the former’s cassette engineering was left unaltered, the receiver section included that of the Beomaster 1100, delivering 2 x 22W of good quality sound. The radio had the ease of four FM stations which could be pre-programmed. Together with these four radio buttons on the front panel could be found a headphone socket. Whereas the Beocenter 1500 had a natural aluminium front, Beocenter 1600 was all-black.
A sliding potentiometer made recording easy, and a switch allowed for the selection of either Chrom Dioxide or normal cassette tapes.
Suggestions whereby to make the Beocenter 1600 into a complete stereo system included that of the Beogram 1100 turntable and Beovox S22 loudspeakers. It would then be known as Beosystem 1600.
