Replacing the Beovox RL140 this redesigned speaker was very similar technically although a new colour scheme was offered: a choice of either glossy black casing with a black front speaker fret or a white cabinet with a grey cloth front.
The red line around its cabinet was replaced with a silver line although the speaker range still retained its ‘RL’ prefix.
The new more modern-looking colours brought the speaers right up to date, matching for example, the Beocenter 9500 or the Beosystem 7000.
To replace the matching red and black ’sprung’ cables of its predecessor, a new range of white and grey or black and grey was sold.
At the end of their life the RL range was not replaced as such by any further Beovox speakers as by then Bang & Olufsen had moved almost totally into the production of active speakers. The name ‘Beovox’ was therefore destined to disappear for many years until the arrival of a wholly different speaker by the same name - but for different purposes - that of BeoVox 1.
