BeoCenter 2000

BeoCenter

Production: 1979 - 1981

Documents: Service Manual, Schematic

The Japanese seemed to have taken over the music centre market in the late 1980s, and in a vain effort to try gain customers Bang & Olufsen brought out their Beocenter 2000. With very little actually being manufactured by B&O (the bulk being made by an unnamed Japanese manufacturer) the quality of this unit bore little to be desired. From a distance the ‘wood’ looked real. It was not until one got closer that one could see just what it was made from plastic!

The noticeable and unusual (for B&O) semi-automatic turntable was useful though. The platter was that from Beogram 1700 with an MMC 20S cartridge giving all that one would have expected for the money. Sound therefore was ‘adequate’, being provided by a 2 x 25W amplifier. FM radio was provided, along with LW and MW and surprisingly Dolby B NR was incorporated within the cassette deck. Ferric oxide and Chrom Dioxid tapes could be played. Four radio station could be pre-set and the Beocenter had sliding controls for regulating the volume, bass, treble and balance. The cassette deck had a green/red indicator which allowed for accurate recording levels.

Beocenter 2200 was sold with Beovox S35 speakers (which were of real wood veneer!) and headphones could be used with the system. When used with Beovox S35 or the much improved Beovox S45 loudspeakers, the audio centre was known as Beosystem 2000.

Cabinet SC20 was specially designed for Beocenter 2000 or indeed Beocenter 2002 which had exactly to same dimensions.
