As compared to Bang & Olufsen’s previous free-standing music centre units which really did look like normal pieces of domestic furniture with their wooden veneers, the System Module SM20 was slightly different in that it took the form of a ‘wall’ in order to display either Beosystem 2000 or Beosystem 3000.

Clip-on shelves allowed for arrangement and placement of the stereo systems upon it and a special clip-on shelf permitted the inclusion of a system turntable (shown below). Modern easily wipe-clean materials took the place of wood veneers which had been in use so prominently in earlier cabinet models.
